Holiday sweets: passed and failed

No need to give up: just choose when and what. The enemy of teeth is sugar that sticks around for a long time.

Limit these
  • Soft and crunchy nougat — it sticks to molars and sugar stays for hours; the hard kind can even chip a tooth.
  • Candies and candy canes — sugar in the mouth for a long time, lick after lick.
  • Candied and sugared dried fruit — sticky and full of concentrated sugars.
  • Fizzy drinks and juices — sugar and acidity sipped throughout the whole meal.
More tolerable
  • Panettone and pandoro (one slice, after the meal) — they dissolve quickly and saliva does the rest.
  • Dark chocolate — not very sticky, better than candies and gummies.
  • Plain nuts and mandarins — the holiday snack that's good for enamel.
  • Cheeses from the feast — calcium and phosphates that help remineralise.

Mirror, toy teeth and a coat: learning by playing is more fun.

The best gift? A check-up in January

After the holidays we'll check together that little teeth are in shape. Dr. Giorgia is waiting for you.
