School's out: why June is the perfect month for a dental check-up
Report cards, recitals and suitcases: before leaving for the holidays there's one appointment worth gold. The June check-up avoids toothache on the beach and uses free time for small treatments.

Toothache doesn't go on holiday
Every summer we get calls from campsites, resorts and seaside houses: 'My child has a toothache, what do we do?'. Almost always it's a cavity that was already there in June, small and silent, and that with ice creams, slushies and toothbrush-free days has made itself felt. A check-up before leaving catches it when one session is enough.
Three good reasons to book in June
First: time. With school over there are no tests, training or homework, and any treatment can be scheduled calmly, without absences. Second: peace of mind. Leaving knowing everything is fine means holidays without on-duty pharmacies in unfamiliar places. Third: six-year molars. Many first and second graders have just had them erupt: June is the ideal time for sealants, which protect the deep grooves exactly when the summer diet gets sweeter.
What we check at the end-of-year visit
Cavities and white spots, gums, hygiene (with a smile 'report card' for the child), wobbly teeth or teeth struggling to erupt, habits like thumb-sucking and mouth breathing. For older children, together with Dr. Pazzi, a look at alignment: summer is often the right time to start braces, with time to adjust away from school.
The holiday kit
Before leaving, prepare a pouch for each child with a new toothbrush (with cap), travel-size fluoride toothpaste, flossers and a water bottle. If they wear braces: orthodontic wax and the case. Save our number in your phone, 051 814000: in case of doubt from the other side of Italy, a photo via WhatsApp helps us advise you right away.
